Winner! Main Sqeeze 2005!
Cannery --
Jun 5, 2005 --
Kielbasia is the winner of the 2005 San Francisco Accordion Festival's "Main Sqeeze" pageant, making her San Francisco's Official Main Squeeze. The festival and pageant took place on June 5, 2005, at the Cannery at Fisherman's wharf, and was attended by hundreds of die-hard accordion fans and unsuspecting tourists. Contestants were judged based on talent, costume, and the answer to the question "Why should you be San Francisco's Main Squeeze." Kielbasia, resplendent in a flowing rainbow-striped mu-mu and bright pink babushka, responded, "I'm already honored to be San Francisco's favorite Accordion-playing lunch lady. As Main Squeeze, I pledge to show the world that not only is San Francisco an accordion-friendly city with terrific food from all over the world, but we are by far the most fabulous!" Kielbasia then performed her crowd-pleasing Pierogi Polka, "Stuff some with cabbage, stuff others with cheese, do the Pierogi Polka...Fry them in butter, top with sour cream...Hey! Slow down! You'll choke-ah!" which led into a thunderous, sing-along rendition of Bobby Vinton's "Melody of Love" in Polish. The audience response was overwhelming, thunderous applause - drowning out the clapping for the second place contestant, the world-famous Great Morgani.
